RADICAL TREATMENT OF DEFORMING FORMS OF ELEPHANTIA BY A PHASED METHOD OF COMPRESSION AND RESECTION AND PLASTIC REDUCTION OF LYMPHADEMATOUS TISSUES
DOI:
Abstract
In severe forms of limpid limbs after a conservative, compression-induced reduction in edema, excess skin and soft tissues remain that deform the limb. They are a reservoir, which is constantly filled with lymphatic fluid, and it creates conditions for the recurrence of edema. Resection and plastic operations allow to remove superfluous tissues and to simulate a limb configuration. The article gives a clinical example illustrating the original technique proposed by the authors, which is based on the use of several stages of treatment. A special feature of resection and plastic surgery is the use of special constricting clamps (caps), which are super-imposed directly on the edges of the wound and thus allow for multi-level suturing of the wound. The technique assumes preoperative compression reduction of edema, surgical resection of excess tissues with plastics in local tissues and stages of postoperative compression therapy and subsequent rehabilitation of patients. In general, the technique allows to achieve long-term clinical effectiveness with restoring limb function.
