Abstract

The article is dedicated to the memory of F.P. Haass on the 240th anniversary of his birth, which can be rightfully attributed to the galaxy of outstanding Germans who gave their lives to the service of Russia. The life of Dr. Friedrich Joseph Haass, a German doctor who received an excellent university education, became Fedor Petrovich Haass, and devoted his life to the service of a new homeland, is described. His journey to Moscow and further directions of his medical activities from the family doctor to the health organizer of Moscow, research scientist, the chief doctor and builder of hospitals, the creator of prison medicine, the great philanthropist and humanist, caring for the poor and disadvantaged, who created the first emergency hospital in Moscow. His scientific contribution and direct and dedicated involvement in the fight against infectious diseases of the time and pandemics (typhoid, trachoma, diphtheria, cholera) are shown. The memory of Haass and his deeds is carefully preserved. In the historical hospital in Moscow on Maly Kazenniye, where he worked until his last days, the Memorial Museum of F.P. Haass was created, which is included in the register of medical museums.
