Zablodsky A.N. Indications and contraindications to gastrointestinal endoscopy in children
are defined, endoscopic symptomatology of diseases of the upper portion of the
gastrointestinal tract is described in accordance with the international terms. Foreign
publications on chromoendoscopic diagnosis are reviewed and authors’ results obtained
with the use of vital stains in children are presented. The philosophy of visual
chromoendoscopic differential diagnosis of congenital and acquired gastrointestinal
diseases in children is presented. Methodology and devices for such examinations are
described. Problems in decontamination of endoscopes are discussed. Errors, hazards, and
complications of endoscopic manipulations and measures preventing them are analyzed.
Safety measures and measures for staff protection are presented. Problems of deontology in
pediatric endoscopic service are discussed.
