   The journal deals with pressing theoretical and organizational problems of chest surgery and allied fields. It publishes new achievements on the problems concerned with the etiology, pathogenesis, clinical picture, diagnosis, and treatment of surgical diseases of the heart, and vessels, lungs, organs of the mediastinum and diaphragm.
   The journal presents papers on organ grafting. It provides its readers with the latest advances in thoracic surgery, publishes research reviews, current events, information on the work of the cardiological section of the Association of cardiovascular surgeons, as well as information on congresses, conferences, and meetings on chest surgery both in Russia and foreign countries.
   The journal publishes papers of prominent scientists and practitioners. Each issue has a section on rare and original clinical notes and cases.
   The journal is intended for surgeons dealing with chest surgery, physicians studying different disturbances in diseases of the circulatory and respiratory systems, the esophagus, diaphragm and other organs and for the broad range of doctors, such as anesthesiologists, therapeutists, phthisiologists, roentgenologists and other specialists in thoracic pathology.
