The journal deals with pressing
theoretical and applied problems of molecular genetics of pro- and eukaryotes, molecular
microbiology and molecular virology. Special attention is paid to studies of the genetic
apparatus of microorganisms, to search for genetic metabolism forms, genetic mapping of
pathogenic causative agents, to investigations of the structure and functions of
extrachromosomal factors of heredity and migratory genetic elements, to theoretical
studies into the mechanisms of genetic regulation. The journal publishes results of
research into molecular and genetic elements of an eukaryotic cell, functioning of
chromosomes and chromatin, nature of genetic changes in malignant degeneration, and a
number of hereditary diseases. The journal describes development of molecular bases of
virology including problems of viral and cellular genomes integration, and problems of
persistence.
The journal publishes research data on genetic engineering, including
synthesis and isolation of genes from natural foci, creation of plasmoid- and virus-based
vectors, obtaining of recombinant DNA molecules for establishing a bank for genes of
microorganisms, animals, and humans; results of search for biotechnological production of
hormones, components of antiviral vaccines, diagnostic and therapeutic preparations.
Besides original papers, the journal publishes 1-2 reviews of literature,
current events, proceedings of conferences and congresses, book reviews in each
issue.
The journal is intended for scientific workers, teachers of higher institutes
and physicians interested in the problems of molecular genetics, microbiology, virology.
