   The main task of the journal is to publish scientific and practical materials on the population's health status and development of public health service in the republics, territories, regions and districts of the Russian Federation. Emphasis is laid on the training of medical personnel, postgraduate training of physicians and nurses. Theoretical problems of public health, social hygiene and social hygienic research are outlined. The journal deals with a wide range of problems associated with demographic processes, with a role of public health care in improving the demographic situation in different areas of the Russian Federation. Much room is given to family and marital life. The journal also publishes information on the activity of the Board of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, All-Russian scientific societies, congresses.
   The journal is intended for heads of public health institutions, for physicians of hospitals, polyclinics, health care units, dispensaries, sanitary-epidemiological centres, health education centres, researchers, and especially for the workers of scientific-and-organizational departments, teachers of the departments of social hygiene, public health administration and history of medicine.
