Abstract

The life cycle of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) is carried out with the participation of lipid metabolism in liver cells. Objective. To review the molecular mechanisms of lipid metabolism in liver cells in HCV infection to determine their significance in the formation of liver steatosis. Results. The effect of HCV infection on lipid metabolism in hepatocytes, the relationship of cholesterol metabolites and the immune response to HCV infection, and the genetic aspects of lipid metabolism in HCV infection were determined. Conclusion. The intrahepatic life cycle of HCV depends significantly on cholesterol production and lipogenesis pathways. When infected, HCV activates host lipid metabolism through various molecular mechanisms that may contribute to the development of liver steatosis.
