Scientific interests

Elucidation of pathogeneses of diseases widespread in human population (metabolic pandemias), such as atherosclerosis, diabetes mellitus, obesity, insulin resistance syndrome and metabolic syndrome. Improvement of pathogenetically substantiated diagnostic methods in clinical biochemistry.

Main scientific results

  1. 1. A new phylogenetic theory of general pathology has been formulated 150 years after Rokitansky and Virchow.
  2. 2. Intracellular deficiency of essential polyenic fatty acids is fundamental to the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis.
  3. 3. Biological role of phylogenetically late insulin consists in providing skeletal myocytes with substrates to produce energy for the biological function of locomotion.
  4. 4. Automated ozone titration has revealed that oxidation rate for oleic monoenic fatty acid in model system is several orders of magnitude higher than that for palmitic saturated fatty acid. This allowed us to formulate two pathways of fatty acid metabolism in vivo, namely, oleic and palmitic.
  5. 5. Phylogenetically, high-, low- and very low-density lipoproteins are successive independent systems for transport and cellular uptake of fatty acids. Very low density lipoproteins provide realization of the biological function of locomotion.
  6. 6. “Conflict of interests” lays the basement for essential metabolic arterial hypertension, i.e., the controversy between regulation of hydrodynamic pressure at the levels of paracrine cell communities and the entire body.

The results obtained were published in 11 monographs and more than 430 scientific articles.
